They hate Trump so much they’re willing to . . . give up the personal income tax?

Thursday, July 4th, 2019

Allow me to be the first to congratulate the citizens of the state of New York on the fact they are now one court case away from being forever free of their noxious, redistributive, initiative- and wealth-destroying state income tax.

Making life worse for those in pain

Sunday, March 10th, 2013

During the Christmas season, 1994, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration put Las Vegas medical doctor Dietrich Stoermer, who had treated our troops in Vietnam, on trial here for writing “too many” painkiller prescriptions. Since other doctors worried about being “red-flagged” by the drug police if they took on the cases of chronic pain patients, Dr. […]

And you thought you could trust them to give it back?

Sunday, February 17th, 2013

A reader — one of many similar — recently wrote in to complain “They tell us that Social Security and Medicare are broken. The fact is the government used that money for wars and should have left the money in the so-called lock box. … I’m incensed that those programs are called entitlements. I paid […]

Obama turns focus to destroying economy

Friday, February 15th, 2013

In his State of the Union speech Tuesday, President Barack Obama made a few favorable references to his erstwhile opponent, Mitt Romney, the guy who four months ago was such a heartless cad that he “didn’t even care” that some woman got sick and died years after she left a company that Bain Capital took […]

And now the clock chimes, and all the impostors drop their masks …

Sunday, December 16th, 2012

“U.S. Sen. Few bothered to read further down, where the newspaper reported […]

Let us count the magic beans

Monday, November 28th, 2011

The congressional deficit-reduction “supercommittee” said Nov. 21 it had failed to reach an agreement on slashing the U.S. deficit by at least $1.2 trillion. That failure will supposedly trigger mandatory cuts to military spending and some social programs, starting in 2013. Or, perhaps, when pigs fly.

And now, it’s illegal to possess the silver coins

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

I’m a tad too young to remember nickel Cokes, though I can remember when they were a dime. It’s tempting to say that in vending machines today “they’re now a dollar.” But in fact the four quarters you’re shoving in the slot consist mostly of copper and contain not a smidgen of silver, so your […]

Spinal Tap, the Schmenge Brothers, and now … The Great Debt Ceiling Debate

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Wow. Talk about alienating your base. Did you see where the AARP disowned Barack Obama, vowing to support his 2012 Republican challenger (whoever that may be), after the president called for bumping the Social Security and Medicare retirement ages to 70, and then “means testing” both programs, cutting off benefits to anyone whose home and […]

‘. . . Without which the United States will default’

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

I happened to tune in a news broadcast on National Public Radio as I was driving home last week. The newscaster said progress was slow, but President Barack Obama still holds out hope for a deal to raise the national debt ceiling by Aug. 2, without which the United States will default on its debt.
